Greetings all! Did you watch the 66th Annual Emmys? As a TV and fashion fanatic, of course I did!
I’m a big fan of Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, andĀ The Good Wife, so I was rooting for all three to win big (and congrats to Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Anna Gunn! Such a good show…)!
There were LOTS of great looks, but here are my top choices of Hot Looks of the Night:
1. Julianna Marguiles
I LOVE Julianna’s ombre’ effect gown. Beautiful fit, just enough shine, and is sexy and elegant. This is how 48 (!) is done. Congrats on that Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama!
2. Halle Berry
I think Halle could wear a burlap bag and still look amazing. From her signature pixie (love the longer bangs), to the gorgeous dusty rose color, the touch of metallic on her sash, and the nude heels…perfect!
3. Melissa McCarthy
This is probably my favorite dress that Melissa’s worn to an awards show. It’s beautifully tailored. I love the detail on her waist, and the tulle adds movement without looking like a costume. Most of all, she looks HOT!
4. Michelle Dockery
This is such a great departure from the typical “awards dress.” Great detail on the bodice, the colors are vibrant without overpowering, and it looks light. So pretty against her ivory complexion!
5. Kelly Osborne/Julia Roberts
Both of these looks are gorgeous for different reasons. Kelly can work unusual looks like no one else, and I am nuts for the hair with this unexpected maroon and white dress. She wears it, and it doesn’t wear her.
Julia has AMAZING legs, and I’m glad she worked hers with this look. It’s short, but not too short. The delicate beading and color keeps it elegant. She looks fierce!
WHITE RULES THE RED CARPET
White popped up all over the carpet, with some gorgeous results. Here is “White Done Right.”
Sophia Vergara brought the va va va voom, Laverne Cox worked a gorgeous cape, and Kate Mara’s column dress with the sheer skirt had a high fashion vibe. All great looks!
TRY AGAIN NEXT TIME…
Unfortunately, along with the “hits,” there were misses. Here’s the “not so great” carpet moments:
1. Lena Dunham
I’m all for takingĀ a risk with fashion, and I don’t expect Lena to do the “typical” look. Many times, I love her style, but this pajama top with what looks like a long square dance skirt just does not work. Sorry, Lena!
2. Laura Prepon
Laura is way too pretty for this dress (I think anyone would be). The neckline is strange, the peplum makes the dress busy, and the color is unflattering.
3. Amanda Peet
I am not trying to pick on a pregnant lady! However, this dress does nothing for Amanda. The material and print reminds me of an old bed sheet, the sleeves are unflattering, and her hairstyle lacks polish. She’s lovely, but the dress isn’t.
4. Kirsten Wiig
I LOVE Kirsten Wiig. She’s incredibly funny, and I was let down by this look. The dress is fine, but the styling is all wrong. The black heels don’t work with this material. the spray tan is too much, and her hair and makeup is too heavy handed.
5. Zooey Deschanel
Zooey is usually so spot on with her style, so I was confused by this one. Again, it’s a styling problem. The hot pink color works for Zooey, but the dress itself is a bit “high school homecoming” (plus, BAD wrinkling on the bottom!).With the parted bangs and curling iron locks, she looks like she’s about to get on the homecoming float, not the red carpet.
What were your favorites? Looks that left you flat?
I heart comments!
